Hello, Yorkshire Village!

We are aware that there has been a small bear sighting within Yorkshire Village.  This has been on the news and radio for the past few days.  This Association is surrounded by woods and, with all the construction going on in the immediate areas, they're being forced into residential areas which is extremely unfortunate for both sides.

Please be alert when you're out and about. Please keep your trash in the garage and call the local authorities should you see any bears in our community so that they can dispatch wildlife control to relocate the bear (see Lawrence Township phone number at bottom).

According to official reports, specific locations and dates of bear sightings in Mercer County:

A black bear was spotted near Mercer Mall on Monday, May 26th, 2025, and in the Yorkshire Village neighborhood on Tuesday, May 28th, 2025.

Multiple reports of a bear were received on April 22nd, 2025, with sightings in the area of Quakerbridge Road, near Hughes Drive and Flock Road, and near a church on Paxson Avenue.

A bear was spotted in Cadwalader Park on Sunday, May 25th, 2025.

A black bear was spotted running through a neighborhood in the West Windsor area on Tuesday, May 27th, 2025.

Recommendations for Bear Safety:

  • Stay Away from Bears: If you encounter a bear, do not approach it or try to feed it.

  • Report Sightings: Report bear sightings to local law enforcement (Lawrence Police or Hamilton Township Police) or animal control.

  • Be Aware: Be on the lookout for bear activity, especially during spring and summer.

  • Follow Safe Practices: If you encounter a bear, remain calm, back away slowly, and make yourself look big (e.g., by waving your arms). Do not run away or make direct eye contact.

  • Keep Food Secure: Store food properly to avoid attracting bears.

Note: Black bear attacks are extremely rare. They don't like loud noise so should you see one yell loud or bank pots and pans together.
